A dental technician (or dental technologists as they are often referred to) is responsible for designing, creating and repairing custom-made prosthetics such as crowns, bridges, veneers, and dentures. They must use their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to design and construct these items according to specifications provided by dental professionals. Additionally, they are often responsible for repairing existing dentures or other prosthetics that have been damaged or worn out.

To become a successful dental technician in the UK, you will need an array of skills. You must:
- have an excellent attention to detail
- have strong problem-solving abilities
- be able to work with precision and accuracy when crafting prosthetics
- good communication skills as most technicians will interact regularly with patients and other healthcare professionals in order to provide them with quality service
- have knowledge of CAD/CAM systems and CNC machines which are used frequently in the fabrication process
- have experience working with materials such as porcelain or acrylic as it is essential for those wishing to pursue this career path
